One More Train

It was late.

She knew it would have been better to take the earlier train, but now it no longer mattered.

Sighing, she gazed down the corridor, hoping there would be at least one more train home.

Finally the lights lit up the side of the tunnel and she felt instantly relieved. Moments later she stepped onto the platform and practically collapsed into a seat, as there were still a hundred blocks to go.

She wondered what the point of all this was, really. 

A lot of effort and for what? To gain some tiny foothold in this giant city, to what end?

The answer to this would take years to unfold...
